Highlights from NABA Africa Outlook 2024

On February 29th, 2024, NABA hosted the Africa Outlook 2024, bringing together experts to discuss the most important trends and issues shaping economy, policy, and business on the continent.

Speakers at the Africa Outlook 2024

This year’s Outlook adopted the theme “Navigating a New World Order”, emphasising Africa’s changing role in a rapidly evolving global geopolitical and economic landscape. The discussions focused on the implications of this for partnership with the continent’s economies, and how to effectively adapt to a changing world to strengthen the Norway-Africa relationship.

Highlights from the day include a keynote address by State Secretary Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, who discussed the opportunities for stronger engagement between Norway and African economies.

In a fireside chat between Dr. Alex Vines, Head of the Africa Programme at Chatham House, and Sanjeev Gupta, Executive Director, Financial Services, at the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), we discussed why a change in mindset and approach is needed for effective partnership with Africa in a changing world.

Kai Simon Eikli Yuen, International Advisor to the Norwegian Shipowners Association, gave a fascinating presentation on the geopolitical implications of conflict in the Red Sea for global shipping, and Africa’s role in global trade.

Panel discussions explored the implications of a changing world order for the worlds of finance and investment, bringing together experts from a broad range of companies, including DNB, Citi, AFC, Norfund, and TIACapital.

Mina Karina Weydahl, Assistant Director, Department for Climate and Environment Section for Energy, Norad, gave a presentation highlighting Africa’s vast potential for renewable energy, and how to catalyse more investment from Norway into the continent.

We want to thank all of our great speakers, and everyone who participated in the Africa Outlook 2024, for their outstanding insight, which helped to make the occasion an outstanding success.

NABA will continue this important conversation about Africa’s role in a changing global order, and what this means for the Norway-Africa relationship, including at our annual Nordic-African Business Summit this year, taking place at the Grand Hotel in Oslo on September 26th.

Early Bird tickets are now available for the Summit, until April 30th. Be sure to book early to secure your place at the Nordic region’s leading Africa-focused business platform.
