The oil and gas sector is the engine behind the African growth story. Oil and gas minerals are being discovered like never before. Due to rising oil prices, investors are now flocking to Africa’s rich resource base. Prospects for investments look promising: from massive reservoirs and a large number of subsea wells in West Africa, to the emerging frontier of East-Africa – and optimistic developments in North Africa. 40% of all foreign direct investments being invested in Africa go into the oil and gas sector.The global commodity boom has created a race to invest in African oil and gas. The US expects that, within the decade, one fourth of their oil will come from Africa. China already receives 30% of their oil from the continent.The Norwegian oil & gas sector holds valuable competence in petroleum production and environmental safeguarding.
