NABA Female Business Network
On Monday NABA and Virke launched the first NABA Female Business network with great success. The initiative was set out to create a platform for women working within Norwegian-African Business and trade highlighting topics addressing women's empowerment with high caliber speakers.
Ms. Daniella Woldemichael, deputy managing director of NABA welcomed the participants to the first of what is to become a bi-annual event for the organization. NABA board member Ms. Cathrine G. Jahnsen addressed in her speech the mission behind the initiative and the ethos of why Virke and NABA have entered this partnership.
Gender equality and women’s empowerment are integral to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2015. As a universal call to action for all stakeholders, including in business, government, youth and civil society, the Agenda articulates priorities for joint efforts, so that all women and men, including young women, can share the benefits of economic growth and development, with no one left behind.
Our keynote speaker Ms. Lilian Simiyu, Senior Associate – Food & Agribusiness Department, Norfund highlighted current stance on “Women in Leadership in Sub-Saharan Africa” and also addressed how these barriers can be broken down. Find her main findings in her presentation here.
