Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Robert Sichinga and representatives from the Bank of Zambia, Zambia Investment Agency and Zambia Farmer’s Union. In 2010, the World Bank named Zambia one of the world’s fastest reforming countries within the economic sector. It is also one of the fastest growing nations in Africa and a key stable actor in the southern region of the continent. Mining and agriculture has historically played an important role in the Zambian economy. Now the country welcomes investors in the energy, fisheries and forestry sector. Minister Sichinga has previously stated that the government is planning to establish three major dams and hydro plants on the Zambian River.Zambia saw a remarkable 93 percent increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2011. The significant rise in investments in Zambia’s is due to a well-managed and growing economy and a peaceful handover of power after the general elections in 2011. At the same time Zambia has put in place various financial reforms over recent years, with banking systems becoming increasingly integrated and foreseeable. There are established institutional agreements between the Norwegian and Zambian tax authorities, between the Norwegian and Zambian central banks and the Zambian and Norwegian Auditor General. To sign up for this Zambia business seminar and to learn more about the investment opportunities in Zambia, please e-mail Ms. Marit Flinder Johannessen: mfj@norwegianafrican.no
