Increased institutional transformations and positive high economic growth rates in Africa, has recently increased the investment opportunities for the continent. According to the Initiative for Global Development, within sub-Saharan Africa, Ghana and Nigeria's strong growth in the west is increasing business activity, while Kenya and Tanzania are particular areas of interest to international business in the east. In the south, Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa are also major targets for companies looking to expand corporate operations. With these growth rates and prospects, comes a fundamental question on the sustainability.

The specific institutional dimensions within African economies has continued to challenge the existing sustainability models and increased a need for corporates and scholars to understand the implications for such dynamics. The changes in the new governments in Africa e.g. Tanzania, can have a significant impact on business climate.

The business enterprises should, not only follow a business-as-usual model (an exclusionary profit-maximization goal), but also a broad sustainable business model, capable of improving socio-economic wellbeing, mitigating environmental risks and sustaining natural capital assets.

The topic intends to cover key issues on business development, assessment on business sustainability models, strategic considerations, corporate social responsibility and local content.
