Congo
Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) is one of Sub-Saharan Africa's leading oil producers, with the oil sector accounting for about half of GDP and 80% of exports, making it the third largest producer in the region, alongside a wealth of largely untapped mineral resources. Economic activity sustained its momentum in 2025, with real GDP expanding by an estimated 3.1% on broad-based gains across oil and non-oil sectors, while non-oil growth reached 3.8%, supported by services. Public finances strengthened as the non-oil fiscal deficit narrowed to 6.8% of GDP in 2025, down from 7.4% in 2024 on sustained non-oil revenue mobilisation, though declining oil revenues trimmed the overall budget surplus to 0.9% of GDP. The medium-term outlook points to a modest recovery, supported by the government's 2022–2026 National Development Plan focused on economic diversification, with particular emphasis on youth employment. The country is also covered mainly by tropical forests and is home to one of the largest areas of tropical peatlands, a fragile ecosystem that plays a crucial role in climate regulation.
