He will address a discussion on Africa’s development reinvented.
“African governments are sick of being preached to. So let’s stop preaching and focus on what we can do to help creating economic opportunities, It is all about jobs”, Collier has earlier announced.
Professor Paul Collier was former the director of Development Research in the World Bank and has several times been honoured for promoting research and policy change in Africa.
Collier is a specialist in the political, economic and developmental predicaments of poor countries. He stresses that change in societies at the very bottom must come from within. Through a series of books he has asked why the poorest countries are failing and what can be done about it.
This evening in Oslo he will discuss these topics through the lense of the contemporary African development context.
After Professor Collier’s speech, he will join a conversation with Ylva Lindberg from the advisory firm Qvartz and H.E Amelia Anne Kyambadde Minister of Trade, Industry and cooperatives in Uganda.

Ms. Ylva Lindberg is the founder and managing director of SIGLA, a boutique consultancy on the role of business in society. She works with listed and state owned companies in identifying risks and opportunities arising from social and environmental challenges, including on leadership programmes, strategy and innovation.
