Before being appointed as Ambassador to Egypt, Ms Klemetsdal served as the Director of Human Rights, Democracy and Gender Equality Section in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to this, she was the Deputy Director of UN Policy Section. She has held positions in the Sections of Peace and Reconciliation, and Humanitarian affairs, focusing on the Middle East. Klemetsdal served as Counsellor at Norway’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York from 2012 to 2015, where she covered humanitarian affairs and Women, Peace and Security. She also headed the first Project for Women, Peace and Security in the Ministry, and has also worked in the secretariat of the Development Minister. She was posted as a political officer at the Norwegian Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, from 2004 to 2007, and has also worked at the Prime Minister’s Office in Norway. Hilde Klemetsdal holds an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Oslo.
