Sjur Larsen was born on March 14, 1964 in Bergen. He has a master’s degree in economics from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), with an exchange year at l’Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) in France. He speaks French and English.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989, and attended the diplomat training course 1990-1992. From 1992 to 1995, he served as embassy secretary in Lagos, Nigeria. In 1995, he became embassy secretary at the Norwegian Embassy in Paris, France. From 1998 to 2011 he held a number of different positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo, before being appointed Ambassador to Greece and Cyprus, where he served from 2011 to 2015. In the period from 2015 to 2021 he was Director and Head of the Section for Central Europe and the EEA Grants in the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He took office as Ambassador to Rabat, Morocco on 16 August 2021.
