Amalie Østhassel
Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Amalie Østhassel is the Chief Operating Officer of the Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA).
Dr. Østhassel started her professional career as a financial consultant for the defence industry, working on commercial contracts and procurement of infrastructure facilities for the UK Royal Air Force and the US Air Force in 2016. Following this, she worked for Y Care International as a Project Manager for a post-ebola project in Sierra Leone before joining the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, India and the EEA and Norway Grants (FMO) in Brussels, Belgium. She has previously lived in Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, India, England, Sweden, Belgium and Kenya.
Dr. Østhassel holds a P.hD in Economic Geography from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Her doctoral thesis titled; Power, Proximity and Value in Digital Agriculture, explored the power dynamics and value creation of datafication among multinational corporations in Kenyan and African agriculture.
Prior to this, Dr. Østhassel graduated with a MSc. in Innovation and Global Sustainable Development from the School of Economics at Lund University in Sweden and a BSc. from Queen Mary University of London.
