African E-Mobility 2.0

Is the Ecosystem Ready for Capital at Scale?

The Roundtable is built for capital allocators to understand and unpack what is needed to unlock capital to scale the African e-mobility ecosystem.

Africa’s e-mobility sector has absorbed roughly $4.5 billion in investment over the past five years. It has produced operators with fleet, revenue, and in several cases banking relationships. The capital pipeline is real. The bottleneck isn't deal flow, it's the mismatch between how these businesses are structured and how institutional capital is designed to deploy.

Vertically integrated business models built out of necessity in a nascent market don't map to DFI underwriting criteria, VC investors are pushing debt onto companies that can’t carry it, and consumer finance for end riders still lands at 45 to 50% interest through MFIs. The market has matured enough to take capital at scale. The business models need to evolve and there are already early signs of this shift.

During this roundtable we will look at the data across companies, countries and capital to understand the market trends and insights for capital allocators to align their thesis around the next wave in the ecosystems’ evolution. Members will get to:

  • Understand deeper data-driven insights about the ecosystem

  • Understand the ecosystems’ inflection points and market structures

  • Explore the business models and use cases from existing companies

  • Understand the existing and future investment opportunities and underlying market structures enabling the scale
