Ethiopia

Ethiopia is Africa's second most populous nation and one of the continent's fastest-growing economies, averaging 8–10% annual GDP growth over the past two decades. Despite recent turbulence — including the Tigray conflict and a sovereign debt default in 2022 — the country has staged a notable recovery, backed by a USD 3.4 billion IMF reform programme and a sweeping structural agenda that includes exchange rate liberalisation, banking sector opening to foreign ownership, and accelerating privatisation. Agriculture remains the backbone of the economy, employing the majority of the workforce and anchoring key export commodities including coffee, gold, and oilseeds. Addis Ababa hosts the headquarters of the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, cementing Ethiopia's role as the diplomatic capital of the continent.
