South Africa

South Africa is the largest economy in Africa and home to one of the continent's most diversified production bases, spanning mining, agriculture, manufacturing, and services, including a well-developed financial sector and strong tourism potential, as well as being the region's leading transport and logistics hub. Economic growth picked up modestly to 1.3% in 2025 and is expected to strengthen further in 2026, supported by improved electricity availability, though persistent bottlenecks in logistics, water, and other network services continue to weigh on investment and productivity. Unemployment remained above 30% in 2025, and close to 60% of South Africans are estimated to live below the upper-middle-income poverty line.
