NABA’s annual assessment of the key trends that will shape business, policy, and economy across Africa is back. Join experts for insight into the defining issues of the next 12 months.

NABA will host a series of events for the Africa Outlook 2023 in the Nordic capitals throughout February, starting in Oslo on February 02, then Helsinki on February 16, Stockholm on February 21, and Copenhagen on February 23.

Against the backdrop of a worsening global economy, the insight provided by the outlook is more important than ever. Key themes such as rising debt, the energy transition, climate change, and food security are amplifying risk. Understanding how to navigate the landscape, and how key markets are evolving, is vital.

Ms. Marie Gad Hansen

Director, Global Development and Sustainability
Confederation of Danish Industry

  • Ms. Marie Gad Hansen is Director of Global Development and Sustainability at the Confederation of Danish Industry. Since 2005 she has worked with DI to strengthen Danish companies' work with sustainability as well as the Danish private sector's role in Danish development policy. Prior to her position at DI, she worked in the corporate sector with international trade and business development with a geographical focus on emerging markets and developing countries. Marie currently holds the position as Vice-Chair of BIAC – Business at the OECD’s Development Committee and as Private Sector Liaison Officer to the World Bank Group. Furthermore, she represents the voice of the Danish private sector as a member of the boards of the 2030-panel, the Council for Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Goals, Global Compact Denmark and the Danish council for Development Policy.

Mr. Martin Lavesen

Managing Partner
DLA Piper Denmark

  • Martin Lavesen is Managing Partner and in charge of the overall management of DLA Piper Denmark. In recent years, Martin has been leading a number of organisational and strategic changes, which have enhanced our market position.

    Alongside his managing-partner role, Martin advises on all aspects of IP law with a particular focus on contracts. For more than 25 years, he has acted for Danish and international clients in all sectors, particularly within high-tech sectors, including life sciences.

    Martin has special knowledge of and experience in advising private as well as public players on commercialisation, licence agreements, partnerships, corporate structures and private placements. Martin has also conducted a number of major cases before the courts, boards and tribunals.

    As part of his chairmanship of the Danish Press Council, Martin is also engaged in press and media law. He sits on a number of boards and committees, including Chairman for the Council of the Danish Bar and Law Society. He frequently lectures and has authored several books and articles.

Mr. Torben Huss

Chief Executive Officer
IFU – the Investment Fund for Developing Countries

  • Torben Huss has extensive experience with investments in developing countries. He has also played a crucial role in IFU’s development over the last years, during which IFU has succeeded in establishing several new funds in cooperation with private investors, not least the Danish SDG Investment Fund with a current capital commitment of DKK 4.1bn

Ms. Sarah Baynton-Glen

Economist
Standard Chartered Bank

  • Sarah Baynton-Glen joined Standard Chartered in 2011. She works on the Africa Research team producing macroeconomic analysis of key markets in Sub-Saharan Africa focusing on East and Southern Africa, and specialising in China-Africa economic engagement. She is based in London. Prior to joining the Bank, Baynton-Glen was based in Beijing where she studied Mandarin and produced research for Beijing-based European Commission projects. She holds a Master’s degree in Chinese Economy from Fudan University, Shanghai, and obtained her BA from the University of Bristol, UK.

Mr. Vincent Rouget

Director, Africa
Control Risks

  • Vincent Rouget heads Control Risks’ political and business risk analysis team for West Africa. Based in the London office, he is actively involved in consulting engagements for organisations across the region, with a particular focus on security threat analysis, business intelligence, conflict and community issues and complex problem-solving. Vincent is also the lead analyst for Francophone Africa, tracking political and security developments and their implication for commercial activities in over 10 countries.

Ms. Mathilde Emilie Thue

Chief Executive Officer
NABA

  • Ms. Mathilde Emilie Thue is the CEO at the Norwegian-African Business Association (NABA). NABA seeks to promote business opportunities on the African continent, adding value to companies doing business in African markets.

    Prior to NABA Ms. Thue was working with the development of renewable energy projects and has been part of the Official Norwegian Delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Mr. Lanre Akinola

Head of Content
NABA

  • Lanre Akinola is Head of Content at NABA. He is the former editor of This Is Africa, a Financial Times publication, and African Business Magazine. He has worked with the Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa, and is a 2014 Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow.
