Amid the global shift from fossil fuels towards sustainable and renewable energy, Africa faces the challenge of driving industrial development, while also decarbonizing its economies.

Many are calling for a “Just transition” that will rely on more, and not less, production of fossil fuels to drive growth. Yet with vast renewable energy potential, and facing the most severe impact from climate change, can Africa leapfrog the need for fossil fuels entirely?
