Mali

Mali is a vast, landlocked Sahelian economy in West Africa, with output and employment concentrated in agriculture and services and an export base dominated by gold and cotton. The economy remains relatively undiversified and is exposed to commodity price movements and climate conditions, which makes diversification and higher agricultural productivity central to the country's development agenda. Growth has held up at roughly 5% in recent years and is projected to remain around that level over the medium term, supported by gold production, a strong cereal harvest, and favourable cotton output. As a member of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, Mali benefits from a stable, euro-pegged currency and regional market integration, while a young and fast-growing population — with around 235,000 people entering the labour market each year — underpins long-term domestic demand.
