Senegal

Senegal's economy is anchored by services, agriculture, and a fast-growing hydrocarbon sector, supported by an Atlantic coastline, a strategic position as a West African gateway, and recent investment in transport, energy, and port infrastructure. The economy grew 6.1% in 2024, driven by the start of new hydrocarbon production, while inflation fell sharply from 5.9% in 2023 to 0.8% in 2024 on lower food prices and stable fuel costs. The external position strengthened, with the current account deficit narrowing to 12% of GDP on rising oil exports and moderated imports, and hydrocarbon output is expected to further support growth in 2025. As hydrocarbon revenues gradually increase, Senegal has an opportunity to channel these resources into human capital, infrastructure, and the energy transition.
